Vice president Maria Laka said there are 43 teams playing across the seven divisions (1-6 plus the premier division).

Teams include Works, Bank of Papua New Guinea, PNG Forest Authority, PNG Power, Telikom, Auditor General and Finance.

“We started last weekend. We will have five games played in round one and another five in round two,” Laka said.

“The finals for the competition will be held in March of next year.”

Vice President, Maria Laka said the 2016-17 season started last year in December with initially 40 teams taking part.

“Interest dropped a bit after the venues were closed early this year. We had many forfeits and some teams even pulled out from the competition.

“But we’ve picked up and are currently into the second week of the second round. We have two more weekends left before the semi-finals start,” said Laka.

Laka said the tentative date for the finals for all eight divisions will be on March 18.
