Waigani market closed

The Market management have decided to close the market upon recommendation from the NCD health authority. The market is expected to be closed for six months, while undergoing maintenance to the toilets. 

Spokesperson representing the market vendors, Pastor Emanuel Luke, understands the role of the market management but stated that many livelihoods will be affected given the short notice of the market closure.  

Upgrade, maintain sporting facilities: Polye

Sports Minister, Don Polye highlighted in Parliament this week, stating that the existing world standard sport facilities like the Sir John Guise Stadium, Santos Stadium (National Football Stadium), National Sports Institute (Goroka) and the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, do position PNG as a sporting nation.

“I am grateful that we do have such asset and very careful as to PNG not losing them. Losing of these international facilities will result only as a result of negligence to do maintenance and renovations,” Minister Polye said.

WSP locals want road improvement

They say the maintenance of roads will have a positive impact on the lives of people.

Alexia Api and Anna Bupi from Osima Village outside of Vanimo City said the road from their LLG into Vanimo Town is unusable.

She said locals are forced to use a nearby river to transport their produce for selling however, this creates further problems.

Other residents from as far as Aitape district said traveling to the provincial hub is very costly.

Men can sue wives for maintenance for abandoning children

Secretary for Constitution and Law Reform Committee Dr Eric Kwa revealed this today.

He said CLRC has reviewed this law and made it gender balanced across the board.

According to CLRC Working Paper 23, three pieces of legislation to deal with maintenance in PNG.

A wife and children who have been deserted may claim maintenance in the District Court or the Local Court under the Deserted Wives and Children Act.

A spouse of a statutory marriage may claim maintenance in the National Court under the Matrimonial Causes Act.
