Late Rebecca Dugul was from Jilim Village in Madang's Rai Coast District. 

She had been buying donuts for breakfast when she was killed. 29-year-old Ismael Mablie, from Enga Province, was charged in connection with her death.

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said that following a full investigation into the matter, Mablie was charged yesterday (Sunday 29, 2022), with willful murder.

The PPC added that others who were with Mablie, will also be charged once witness statements are completed.

Madang Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said there were three attempted car thefts that happened at around the same time. All three attempts were unsuccessful.

PPC Rubinag said the taxi driver’s escape from the criminals at James Barnes got the attention of nearby Kuima security guards, who arrived at the location moments after the criminals had escaped.

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said the man who has been arrested in connection with her death is from Enga Province. He is currently in custody.

Police established that there was fight at the front of the market, between a security guard who manned the service station in town, and some youths. 

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said two other men were also injured in the same incident and admitted to hospital. PPC Rubiang said the situation in town is tense.

Police have urged the public not to instigate any further trouble after properties were damaged as a result of the killing and injuries of the two men. This included damage to important equipment at a service station. 

He was caught and bashed up by students of Mero Primary after the gun he was holding failed to go off. The incident occurred on Monday May 9, 2022.

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said the gun-wielding juvenile sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Modilon Hospital for treatment.

PPC Rubiang said students and staff of Mero Primary today (Monday 23, 2022) reconciled with the injured student. The PPC has also requested the injured student to make amends with Mero Primary School students and staff.

Madang Provincial Police Commander, Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, said on Wednesday afternoon, duty police officers received a call from the relatives of the rape victim that the suspect was sighted at Gomgom village outside Madang airport.

He said the police responded quickly with the help of the family and apprehended the suspect.

“I thank the police officers for their quick response, such people who have no respect for police and escape when arrested will still escape when they see police. I am happy that the police responded quickly.

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang called on the supporters, indenting candidates, and the people of Madang to respect one other during this important period.

PPC Rubiang specifically warned drivers who overload trucks during nomination and campaigning, that they will be arrested and charged for overloading. He said there had been reports of people overloading trucks, and disturbing the public. These activities will be carefully monitored.

The deceased was stabbed in the lower abdominal area with a kitchen knife. She died from a loss of blood.

PPC Rubiang said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. The deceased was rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead. Her family have been advised to lay a formal complaint with police and assist with necessary information to speed up investigations.

Police have put a call out to the dead woman’s husband to surrender to police and explain his alleged involvement in his wife’s death.

According to police, the fight was between two groups of youth and men all residing at New Town.

Police said the fight started yesterday afternoon and although it stopped shortly after, it was restarted this morning. Both groups were armed with weapons. 

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said police have stopped the fighting, and leaders of the two parties have been instructed to make themselves available at the police station to resolve the issue once and for all.

The incident occurred on Tuesday April 19, 2022. The unidentified man is now at the Modilon Hospital morgue. Police reports state that his accomplices managed to escape in a getaway car.

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said the police report from Bogia stated that armed men drove to the supermarket and waited in strategic areas at the store. When the manager opened shop, he and his employees, including security guards, were held at gun point and ordered to lie on the floor.
