Late Maprik MP remembered

Described as a humble yet determined leader, Kapris was the sitting member for Maprik open until his untimely passing on August 13, 2023.

Kapris was first elected to the National Parliament in 2002, re-elected in 2007 and lost his seat to John Simon in 2012.

During this time as a member of parliament, he was caretaker Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Minister for Defence, Forest as well as Minister for Housing and Minister for Works.

The hearse arrived at around 11am, received by the pall-bearers who are members of the PNG Correctional Service. Once the casket was placed in the designated position, the Sergeant At Arms then led the ceremony.

Parliament Receives Deputy PM For The Last Time

Speaker of the House, Job Pomat received the casket from the pallbearers and ceremonial guards.

The late Deputy Prime Minister was received and honored with the traditional lie-in-state ceremony for an hour where Members of Parliament and other state heads paid their respects.

At 12:26pm, the casket of late Basil left the House of Parliament and was transported to the funeral home.

At 2pm today, the casket was brought to Sir John Guise Stadium for the State Funeral Service.
