Family thanks provincial gov’t

The provincial government initiative for school fee assistance for Madang’s tertiary students named, Sir Peter Barter Education Scholarship Program. 

Wife of Andrew Barter, the only son of late Sir Peter, Juanita Barter spoke on behalf of the Barter family said the late Peter was a great man in Madang who had done a lot for the province while serving as the governor and a businessman. 
She said what he had done will go down in the history of PNG and Madang. 

Sympathies offered to Sir Peter’s family

Kramer said he was contacted by Sir Peter’s son, Andrew Barter, who confirmed that his father, aged 82, had passed away at 7am today (22nd June 2022) at the Cairns Hospital in Australia.

“Sir Peter travelled to Brisbane a month ago for urgent medical treatment after becoming very ill in Madang. He had a rare terminal heart condition that developed into an internal infection,” Kramer said.

WPU Expresses Gratitude To Late Sir Peter

In a statement, the university said: “We are all very saddened by the loss of Sir Peter Barter. However, we at WPU celebrate his life and we know he is watching down from Heaven.

“As we read in the Deuteronomy 31:8: “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you”.

“We have lost a dear friend and valued colleague. Our grief and confusion at this time are little compared to what Sir Peter’s family must be feeling.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to them. 

Sir Peter Barter Passes On

This was confirmed by his employees at the Madang Resort this morning.

People living around Madang were shocked when receiving the news on his passing.

Late last month, he was sick and was admitted at Modilon hospital but was later transferred to Australia for further medical treatment.

Late Sir Peter began his political career in 1992 when he was elected as the regional member for Madang province, and was initially in the opposition and then later was given the health minister ministry.
