Late Sir Jerry Nalau

Ahi villages pay respect

It was a show of unity when representatives from the six villages of Butibam, Hengali, Kamkumung, Wagang, Yanga and Yalu convoyed to the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium to support the late Sir Jerry’s family.

The group was received by Sir Jerry’s younger brother, Giosi Labi, and the fourth daughter of Sir Jerry’s six children, Hethy Nalau.

He cleared state land

The late Sir Jerry Nalau was a no nonsense, direct and witty kind of guy.

He was the last premier of the Morobe government and under the 1995 reformed system, became the province’s first governor.

His brother, Giosi Labi, who was also Momase’s former assistant police commissioner, said his brother was fond of history and passionate about his country.

That was why he reclaimed all state land.

“Now, we’re selling the land. Public servants are selling the land,” he stated. “When Sir Jerry was the governor, he bulldozed all those places down.

Governor extends sympathies to Nalau family

Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu made this remark when extending the province’s condolence to the former Morobe premier’s family.

The late Sir Jerry passed away at the ripe age of 83 on May 6th.

He had turned 83 on March 2nd – a few days after the passing of his big brother, the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare, on February 26th.
