Jared came first in physics, second in advanced mathematics, and second in information and communication technology.

With his mom taking her rightful place by his side, the soft-spoken young man shared that despite his challenges, he is determined to achieve his dream of becoming a mechanical engineer in the aviation industry.

This was the encouragement given to the Grade 12 graduating students of Lae Secondary School yesterday by the acting Prime Minister and Lae MP, John Rosso.

428 grade 12 students graduated yesterday under the theme: ‘Quality citizens through quality education’.

While speaking to them, Rosso outlined the values that will guide them in their future endeavour; perseverance, dedication, determination, hard work, desire, discipline and loyalty.

The multi-stakeholder committee returned to Lae following their public consultation on recommendations for boundary demarcations in July.

The EBC proposed to split Lae Open into two electorates; East and West Lae, and divide Bulolo Open into East and West Bulolo.

Leaders and members of the two affected electorates turned up to participate in the discussions. Among them were Huon Gulf MP, Ross Seymour, prominent Morobean and community leader, Benson Nablu, and former governor, Luther Wenge.

Morobe Provincial Government allocated over K1.7 million for this first of its kind initiative.

The cheque presentations were handed over to each school representative at the Lae Secondary School on Monday August 16^th, 2021.

An additional three new vehicles were also presented to School inspectors.

Immanuel Lutheran High School teacher, Phillip Buseng said after 40 years of establishment, this is the first kind of support the school has received either from government or any other agency.

The Mary Koreba Building has been upgraded to 10 classrooms from the initial eight.

The completion of the upgraded Mary Koreba Building is testament of a good partnership between the Lae Secondary School and local contractor, Green Energy & Engineering Ltd.

During Wednesday’s handover ceremony, the school’s principal, Christopher Raymond, commended the company for sharing his vision of quality human development.

Busu and Lae secondary will be upgraded to reflect their status.

Under the leadership of principal George Noble, Busu Secondary School has been making significant academic leaps since 2016.

Morobe’s provincial program advisor – education, Keith Tangui, acknowledged this fact, saying this was the reason why Busu secondary, along with Lae secondary, will become schools of excellence.

Principal Christopher Raymond said the school has exceeded its quota.

“For this year, I requested for 550 Grade 9s but the selection process gave me 613, which is 63 over my quota,” he stated.

“While I already have 63 over, many parents are still requesting space to transfer their children and this is becoming stressful, trying to meet parents’ requests.”

This is the warning from the Lae police boss, Anthony Wagambie Jnr, following the recent school fight between Lae and Bugandi secondary.

“My warning to the students is, if you take the streets again to start up any more of this nonsense, you will end up behind bars,” he says.

“Police have given enough opportunities for you to change and stop this.

“You don't understand that your actions could have led to damage to many properties, looting of shops, damage to vehicles of the travelling public, serious injuries and even death.

A fight broke out after school at Eriku again, where a couple of Lae Secondary School boys received injuries. Police were at the location and managed to disperse them.

More than 200 male students from Bugandi secondary came out of school and marched towards the Salamanda way around 8am yesterday morning.

A Police Sector Patrol Unit was there and tried to stop them at Bugandi roundabout and get them back to school but they (students) refused to listen and headed straight for Eriku.

The Lae chapter of the competition, held for the first time in the city, attracted 10 teams from the Steamships Group of Companies, who braved the heat at the Lae Secondary School ovals.

CEL Liners had topped pool B round of matches and brushed aside a determined Riback, who finished second in pool A in the semi-finals, to book a grand final appearance.

Pool A top place getter, Lae Port Services Sea Waves, could not stop East West Truckies in the other semi-finals.
