Lae police apprehend notorious criminal

“There was an armed robbery at about 4pm yesterday at a Chinese shop situated next to Saint Mary's Primary School, away from the main shopping centre,” Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr said.

The new sector patrol, installed by the Lae Police Command, had been effective, with timely responses to major crimes in the city. 

 “The response time and men on foot were less than ten minutes,” Wagambie Jnr said.   

“Two suspects apprehended with their weapons and stolen cash.

Court bail suspect involved in robbery: Police

Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr made this comment following crimes committed by people out on Court Bail in the Morobe provincial capital.  

“Police will be consulting the Public Prosecutor," he said.

People who become bail guarantors should also be dealt with when the defendant breaches bail  conditions. 

Meanwhile, a suspect has been apprehended in connection to the armed robbery at Rabtrad Supermarket last Saturday.

Wagambie Jnr said the suspect was identified on the CCTV footage because he was not wearing a mask.

Robbers escaped in a getaway vehicle

About five armed men walked into the premises at around 10am in the pretext of being customers and went straight to the administration office, held up workers and made off with a substantial amount of cash in a waiting vehicle.  

Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr said the gang were armed with factory and homemade guns and execute the robbery with precise within 10 minutes.

“Police were informed after this had happened but by then the suspects had already gone to the nearby seafront where they boarded a waiting dinghy and made the getaway.”

Suspects linked to Lae robbery apprehended

The incident happened on Tuesday when about seven armed men robbed some company employees and took a substantial amount of money. During the heist, a security manager of a mobile phone company was also held up and license Glock semi-automatic pistol taken from him.

The suspects escaped and police only managed to recover the gateway vehicle and impounded it.

Lae Police Boss Anthony Wagambie Jr said his command received a tip off of a drinking spree which resulted in the arrest of five suspects with one wounded and is in hospital.
