Lae-Madang

According to police reports, Late Daniel Kansol was shot on Monday morning (7^th February), while traveling in a PMV bus from Wawin National High School in Morobe. He was returning to Madang after delivering his children at the school. Armed criminals held up the PMV and its passengers at Belly Bridge.

Madang Provincial Police Commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said the deceased was from Western Highland Province. The shooting took place at 3am. Late Kansol was seated in the front of the bus when he was shot.

The materials are now stranded and placed at the side of the road at Tapopo, some thirty kilometres away.

The Wasigo bridge was damaged towards the end of last year after a container truck  transporting tinned fish accidentally crashed onto the side of the bridge and dragged it along, causing it to fall into the river and destroying the entire barley bridge.

Vehicles and the traveling public who depend on this vital road link were stranded for a couple of days before a river crossing was built to allow bigger and four-wheel vehicles cross.
