K35mil meth case adjourned

Magistrate Lorna Sani made the decision yesterday after police prosecutor, Vincent Suakai, asked for more time to put together the necessary documents that will be tendered to court.

Suakai told Sani that police have completed their investigation pursuant to section 94B of the District Courts Act 1963.

Father’s sex case committed to national court

Police allege that the 37-year-old, from Morobe’s Nawaeb district, has been forcing his biological daughter, who was 12 years old at that time, to have sex with him from January 15th, 2018, to March 27th, 2022.

According to the police brief, “the victim always pleaded with the defendant to stop but he continued to have sex with her” until March 27th, when she ran away to another village.

The girl was then brought to Lae and the matter was reported to the Morobe Provincial Police Headquarters.

Guard fined for roll of marijuana

Arnold Jonathan, from Yangoru in East Sepik Province, told Senior Provincial Magistrate Pious Tapil this morning at the Committal Court that on January 16th, he was in the vicinity when police were chasing people at Works Compound during a patrol.

The defendant claimed he was returning from his workplace when he saw the roll of marijuana that was dropped. He pocketed it when he was apprehended by police.

Magistrate Tapil told the defendant that he found it hard to believe that he just found the rolled up drug.

Lae deputy mayor’s case struck out

Maragau’s case was brought before Senior Provincial Magistrate, Pious Tapil, with the police prosecution team seeking to obtain a warrant of arrest from the court.

Police alleged that on Sunday, January 1st, at around 8am, five men were caught purchasing cartons of alcohol from 140 Club, which is a licensed liquor outlet owned by the deputy lord mayor.

Police claim Maragau was aware of the liquor ban imposed in Morobe, but went ahead and permitted his wife and household to sell alcohol.
