PX renews Employee’s Association Awards Agreement

Air Niugini Managing Director, Alan Milne during the signing of the agreement on Tuesday 18th February said the negotiations and discussions were based on tough, prevailing economic circumstances which not only had an impact on Air Niugini, however also other airlines in the region.

Mr Milne said improvements to staff travel and cargo rebates are additional privileges granted as a token of the management’s appreciation and recognition to all staff who continue to show commitment and loyalty.

Juffa to table syndicate reports

Juffa revealed this during an opposition media conference on Tuesday.

The tabling of the reports follows on from reports he received as well as investigations conducted by himself into the alleged syndicate operating in PNG, which he claims has proliferated in the province.

Juffa claims that the syndicate has been colluding with the Labour Department to bring in foreigners on illegal work permits when they have not passed an English proficient test, a key criteria before a work permit is issued.

Inspectors satisfied with visit to BSK Refinery

The purpose of the visit was mainly to inspect the refinery compliance of storage, transportation and handling of the dangerous goods like explosives and fuel, permit application and related fire-fighting systems.

The trio visited the explosive storage area, inspected the specialized vehicles used to transport explosives as well as the Basamuk Refinery heavy fuel storage area and the fuel station.

US productivity growth rebounds to 1.3 pct. in 2nd quarter

     

The Labour Department said Tuesday that worker productivity increased at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.3 percent, up from a drop of 1.1 percent in the first quarter. The first quarter's decline was revised sharply higher from a previous estimate of a 3.1 percent decline.

The second quarter rebound occurred mostly because the economy grew faster: It expanded at a 2.3 percent annual rate, compared with the first quarter's anemic 0.6 percent growth.
