Konrad Hurrell returns to Tonga to help cyclone-ravaged nation

NRL.com reporter Zac Bailey joined Hurrell as he surprised loved ones in the country’s cyclone-ravaged capital Nuku’alofa.

Hurrell was granted leave from pre-season training by Titans coach Garth Brennan, a decision that gave the Tongan international the chance to lend a hand following the Category 4 cyclone.

Houses were flattened and lives lost in the natural disaster that has crippled the nation.

In his short-time at the Titans, Konrad has already made a big impression. The hulking centre, who resurrected his career on the Gold Coast, has clocked-up more than 120 hours of community work over the past twelve months.

It's not just Konrad's trademark energy and emotion that makes him one of the NRL's most popular players but it is also his genuine care for those in the community.

Hurrell's plan all brawn, no brain

Taking two wins into the Representative Round bye has enabled the Titans to move into 12th position and look forward with some optimism but they face a genuine test of their credentials against Melbourne in the Suncorp Stadium double-header next Saturday night.

Having missed the Round 5 loss to the Warriors and Round 7 loss to the Broncos, Hurrell returned along with Jarryd Hayne in Round 8 against the Sharks and ran for more than 150 metres in each of his two games back, adding two tries in the 38-8 rout of the Knights, his second double against Newcastle this season.
