Samuel reappointed DNPM Secretary

The re-appointment of Samuel as Secretary was officially confirmed on 31st January, 2024 by the National Executive Council and signifies his second consecutive term of four year.

The meeting also marked the first SMC meeting following the government’s re-appointment of Samuel.

Samuel’s speech outlined his expectations for the department, particularly in the areas of management roles and responsibilities, and fostering professionalism within the workplace.

Planning dept launches work plan

“We are happy that we have put together our key result areas going forward this year,” Samuel said at the launch of the plan which was attended by the entire DNPM staff and management.

He commended the senior management team and technical advisor, Roger Kara, for assisting the team to put together this important working document.

National Planning secretary defends department

Koney Samuel has responded to comments by Stephen Rambe, Deputy Secretary for the Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD), in an article published by one of the dailies on September 5th.

Rambe was quoted: “The National Planning Department is now responsible for vetting all development plans for districts and provinces.” He went on to state that DNPM currently had no standard guideline or tool book to assess and vet development plans and this was an issue that needed to be addressed.  

30 new National Planning staff welcomed

Of the 30, 28 of them were graduands who have been engaged as casuals in the Department since July 2017.  

The new staff signed short term contracts with the Department that will see them on the payroll until the end of their terms.

The contracts are for 5 months. Acting First Assistant Secretary, Corporate Services Division, Loma Pamea, said the Department as a central agency had provided these short term contracts in complying with the Public Services Regulation.
