​Kokopo hosts PNG Chocolate Festival

The cocoa sample tasting is the highlight of the two-day ‘Cocoa Warwagira’, to be staged in Kokopo, East New Britain, from May 25-27, 2017.

The purpose of the show is to find the best Papua New Guinea cocoa to represent the industry in the International Cocoa of Excellence show in Paris, France. It will identify and reward cocoa farmers in various categories such as best cocoa quality, best fermentary facility and best managed block.

​No coordination in ENB: Candidate

Unbudgeted spending and politically driven commitments drove the province off its development pathway, says Kokopo Open Independent candidate Edward Lamur.

He has maintained this argument on his campaign trail to educate voters.

Lamur and his team began correcting the issue by developing his home grown policies in line with the East New Britain Provincial Government’s strategic result areas, aligned to the ENB development pathways and Vision 2050.

Kepas Tika, from Ravat Ward in the Raluana LLG of Kokopo District, called on his people of Ravat and Ngatur Wards to vote wisely so their children do not suffer in the future.

Tika said mothers continue to die from cancer due to lack of proper medical equipment and most do not have the financial capacity to go to the Angau Hospital in Lae for treatment.

He says it would be better if such lifesaving medical equipment are available in their hospitals.

He further said medical facilities continue to run out of life saving drugs.

Lamur plans to rescue Kokopo District

The former public servant and deputy provincial administrator socio-economic services, is one of 25 candidates contesting the seat in East New Britain Province during this national elections.

Former Prime Minister and Kokopo MP Sir Rabbie Namaliu and Lamur’s elder brother William Lamur are throwing their support on him.

Lamur, 51, from Ralubang Village in the Bitapaka LLG is married with two children and has been preparing for two years to contest in this election period.

Kokopo school welcomes K550,000 housing project

The Kalamanagunan Primary School excitedly opened 7 teachers’ units last Friday (March 24) with traditional singsing, food and special gifts.

The pilot project, funded by the Kokopo Development Authority at a cost of K550,000, includes a 5-in-1 complex and a duplex.

Governor Ereman ToBaining Jnr, who officiated at the event, said the new infrastructure aligns with their government’s education plan.

“Teachers will not need to travel hours and hours and miles away to come to school. That is why we are housing them on campus.

Partnership among agencies will transform agriculture sector

This is in the case of initiatives being undertaken to develop idle and unused State land for agriculture development purposes.

The partnership between the Department of Agriculture and Livestock and the Cocoa Board, supported by key agencies such as the Department of Lands and Physical Planning and other stakeholders in utilizing undeveloped land in Kokopo, East New Britain Province, for cocoa development is one good example.

ANZ launches new ATM in Kokopo

Gathered at Tropicana to witness the occasion was owner of Tropicana Limited, Sandra Lau, ANZ Kokopo branch staff and members of the public.

This new ATM brings the total number of commissioned ATMs in PNG to 72.

ATMs are an important banking service as it allows people to transect easily and conveniently in a cost effective and speedy manner.

ANZ thanked the management of Tropicana Limited for allowing them to set up this facility within their business.

Home is where learning begins

For Nicanor-Jose Berobero and Kayla Schmid at the ATS barracks outside Port Moresby, early learning at home has enabled them to spell, write and pronounce words very well in preparation for their formal schooling next year.

Their teacher, Diane Kawaneva, said early childhood learning is very important as it prepares them very well to go into formal education.

“Children as young as these absorb information fast and that is why early childhood learning is important,” reiterates Kawaneva.

ILG is answer of empowerment economically: Dion

Sir Leo made the remarks when presenting ILG certificates to five clans in Kokopo, East New Britain Province, recently.

He urged them to take part in the development of the province and country as a whole.

“I am urging the ILGs to work together with the Provincial Government, Local Level Government and the Mayors so that they can be recognised in service delivery.”

​Toea Wisil back in country to promote HP athletes training

PNG Loop caught up with Wisil on her way to the domestic terminal to transit to Kokopo. Toea said she was invited by colleagues Betty Burua and Theo Pinau who were currently in Kokopo organising the event under the High Performance course to encourage young athletes  to participate in athletics.

The sprint queen was excited to be back in the country and showed a lot of enthusiasm when speaking about encouraging the young ones through the program when she visits schools in Kokopo as part of the program.
