APEC Senior Disasters Management Officials Forum commences in Kokopo

Minister for Inter-Government Relations, Hon. Kevin Isifu in his welcoming remarks said that early warning is a key enabler for and core to effective disaster preparedness and risk reduction.

“Early warning is vital for us to direct often-finite amounts of resources to support timely, relevant and appropriate actions, starting with a persistent scanning of the horizon for hazards,” said Minister Isifu.

He added that the SDMOF theme has significant convergence with the overall APEC 2018 theme of “Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future.”

SP Export claims naming rights to Mask Festival

A contract was signed yesterday in Port Moresby between the Festival Committee and SP Brewery to formalise an undisclosed sponsorship package.

The agreement solidifies a potentially long term partnership between the committee and the Brewery.

SP Brewery Marketing Manager, Josh Wheeler, said today that cultural preservation in a constantly evolving world is critical for Papua New Guinea.

And they are proud to be supporting the Festival preserve PNG culture for future generations.

FFPNG successfully stages friendly matches in Kokopo

In the main match, Hekari United FC outclassed FC Radazz 5-1.

Again, it was the Kepo brothers who featured prominently in the win with two goals to Ati and one to Kolu.

The other two points came off the boot of Nathan James.

In the curtain raiser which was a women's match, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville drew 1-1 with East New Britain.

Next up on the FFPNG calendar will be the seven-a-side tournaments which will be held in all four Conferences (Northern, Southern, Highlands and NGI) across the country during the month of April.

Hekari to play exhibition match in Kokopo

President of Football Federation PNG, John Kapi Natto said that there is raw talent out there which needs to be exposed through FFPNG.

“In our calendar, we have created a Champions League of our own which kicks off in February and the final will be in March.

“So Hekari will be travelling there to Kokopo in March to play the East New Britain selected side or the winning team that won gold at the recent PNG Games.

“This is part of FFPNG promoting football across all waters in the country including East New Britain. I’m very excited about this development.

PNGIPA steps up regional training

PNGIPA, a core partner of the Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct, recently launched its Project Management course in Kokopo, East New Britain Province.

The Project Management course was attended by more than 20 participants and marked a significant landmark for PNGIPA.

The Precinct is supporting PNGIPA’s training delivery which includes increased opportunities for vocational education in subnational areas and improvements to regional training centres.

VIDEO: Athletes to visit Kokopo

The athletes will be there for the Olympic Values Programme which they will be conducted in four schools between August 28 and 31.
The program focuses on the Olympic Values of Friendship, Respect and Excellence which are important aspects of sports.

Goroka camp anticipated in Kokopo

According to inside sources from the Kokopo camp, they are awaiting on the announcement from Pangu Pati leader Sam Basil.

However, Basil told Loop PNG that such talks are for leaders to discuss and he did not want to discuss further on the rumors.

The Kokopo camp currently has 15 MPs in camp but will be increasing as more MPs elect are anticipated to be joining them today.

Out of the 15, ten MPs are from the National Alliance Party while the other five are from coalition partners and independent MPs.

Tammur is new Kokopo MP elect

Tammur was declared at 5:40pm at the Vunapope Diocese Hall.

Tammur won by an absolute majority of 50%+1 (7, 519) votes in the 23rd elimination count polling at 8,325 votes.

Running second to him was former sitting member, Ereman ToBaining Jnr, who polled at 6,711 votes.

His declaration today makes him the first member-elect for the People's Progress Party in the 2017 National Elections.

Celebrations are currently underway in Kokopo as Tammur's supporters take to the street to celebrate his win.

Schnaubelt threatens to sue ENB PPC

This pertains to the incident involving his security firm staff over the weekend.

Walter Schnaubelt, in a statement, said he is taking legal advice regarding the actions and comments of Tabali and the false media reports that have emanated.

Schnaubelt denies being involved in any kind of illegal activity that had any relation to the coming national elections.
