Kokoda Initiative Development Program (KIDP)

Kokoda Station gets new disease control centre

The centre, the first of its kind in Northern Province, was funded by Rotary New South Wales, with assistance from the Australian Government through its Kokoda Initiative development partnership with PNG.

It will serve a population of more than 16,000 people on the northern half of the Kokoda Track.

A similar health centre, constructed by the Kokoda Initiative at Sogeri last year, serves communities on the southern side of the track.

Kokoda lifesavers now saving money

The program brought BSP rural agents to Kokoda and Sogeri, in Central Province, to enable Village Health Volunteers (VHV) to complete the necessary paperwork.

VHVs are paid allowances when they take part in Kokoda Initiative health patrols and other activities. Now they can be paid directly into their bank accounts, eliminating the risks of carrying large amounts of cash into remote communities.
