Justice Sir Bruce Robertson

The tribunal, chaired by Justice Sir Bruce Robertson on Wednesday, allowed an application by Justice Sir Bernard Sakora, referring the constitutional questions for interpretation of the Supreme Court.

His lawyer, Loani Henao, told the tribunal yesterday that the six questions query the tribunal’s appointment and the process used to appoint it.

He asked for the jurisdictional basis of the tribunal to be dealt with by the Supreme Court, before the tribunal can investigate further. 

Justice Sir Bruce Robertson was sworn in at the Government house today by Governor General Sir Bob Dadae.

He will chair a tribunal that was set up by the Chairman of the Legal Service Commission, to investigate allegations of delayed judgments, laid against senior PNG judge, Justice Sir Bernard Sakora.

In an instrument dated July 13, the former Attorney General Ano Pala appointed the tribunal, which will investigate the conduct of Sir Bernard, and report back to the Legal Service Commission.
