This was one of the resolutions reached during the first, and possibly the final, post-referendum Joint Supervisory Body meeting held on Thursday, the 12th of March, at Port Moresby’s APEC Haus.

It was the first Joint Supervisory Body, or JSB, meeting to be held since the referendum last year. It is also the last JSB as its name has been changed to Joint Consultative Body, and this body will continue to provide oversight to the post referendum consultation processes.

Keys issues to be discussed in JSB

Following a first of its kind Joint Ministerial Dialogue between key ABG Ministers and their national government counterparts in Port Moresby early this month, progress has been made to ensure there is meaningful discussion and a more successful outcome at the upcoming special JSB.

ABG Minister for Peace Agreement Implementation, Albert Punghau, described the meetings with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Attorney General and the Minister for Bougainville Affairs, as fruitful.

Momis: ABG prepared for joint meeting

In briefing the Bougainville Executive Council, President Momis said the ABG had a clear plan for the JSB talks to resolve long-standing issues between the two governments.

“While there is much work to do, I am confident that this JSB will make real progress on the referendum questions to be asked, the legal framework of the BRC, appointment of all members of the Bougainville Referendum Commission and funding for Commission activities,” Momis said.
