Jimmy Uguro

Minister for Education, Jimmy Uguro made this known when presenting the Education Department’s 2020 Annual Report in the recent Parliament session.

He mentioned that the department’s main challenge over the next 10 years is to ensure that all children complete 13 years of relevant quality basic education.

Minister for Education, Jimmy Uguro confirmed this whilst in Kimbe, West New Britain recently.

He said the Government is committed in subsidizing school subsidies across the country with funds earmarked for the second quarter ready to be rolled out across the country.

More than K100 million has been approved by the NEC for the second quarter.

Minister Uguro also encouraged schools to continue to accept students and not to charge any fees.

However, project fees can be paid depending on the decision by the Provincial Education Board.

He said this when calling Provincial Administrations and Open MP’s to follow legislation when appointing District Administrators.

Kapavore said he has received letters of complaints from Open MP’s regarding the manner in which some of their District Administrators were treated by Provincial Administrators.

Usino-Bundi MP, Jimmy Uguro, sought clarification from Minister Kapavore on the process of appointing District Administrators.

He said in some cases Provincial Administrators were appointing District Administrators without consultation with Open MP’s

This was raised by Usino-Bundi MP, Jimmy Uguro, in Parliament on Thursday (August 30^th), who asked the Mining Minister if he was aware of the alleged activity.

The Usino-Bundi MP alleges that the actions of the expatriate are delaying mining projects.

He added that the same individual was also awarded a work permit while he was still in the country.

“Is the Minister aware that there are some state highly confidential data and information being disclosed to mining companies by an expatriate working in a senior position in MRA?

He said all MPs crossing the bench, had done so because of funding constraints impeding service delivery in their districts.

In a phone interview with this newsroom today, Governor Juffa challenged the recently defected Opposition members of parliament, to ensure service delivery is priority for their people.

He claimed that the Government is using DSIP and PSIP funds to lure MPs to join them.

However, when welcoming the three MPs, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said the MPs move to the Government was at their own accord and nothing to do with DSIP and PSIP funds.

Welcoming the Governor and the other two MPs, Maprik MP, John Simon and Usino-Bundi MP, Jimmy Uguro, Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, said their move to the government shows that the Government is intact and stable.

In a small ceremony this afternoon at the Sir Manasupe Haus in Port Moresby,  the Prime Ministersaid the MPs move shows that PNC led government is intact and confident to remain in power for the remaining parliament terms.

Chief Inspector Ben Neneo wanted an explanation as to why some leaders were seen with the people but were not able to stop them from protesting, which led to a number of deaths and injuries recently.

Neneo said leaders seen among the crowd were Bogia MP Robert Naguri, Usino-Bundi MP Jimmy Uguro and former governor James Yali.

The MP said seven men were arrested by Madang Police on Friday (January 26) when they stormed into the district head office and “illegally” took two of its Toyota LandCruiser.

The vehicles were earlier confiscated by the district authority and impounded at the office.

Uguro said the suspects were chased by Police and later apprehended.

Police also took the vehicles.    

Last year, the Usino-Bundi District Development Authority (UBDDA) made a decision to recoup all district assets, including vehicles and machineries.

Following submissions of Usino-Bundi acquittal reports from 2015 and 2016, Usino-Bundi MP Jimmy Uguro claims there were a lot of discrepancies.

He said he has written to the Secretary for Department of Implementation and Rural Development to send a team to the district to carry out proper audit.

The MP believes a number of projects have been left incomplete hence the audit will help the current administration identify these projects and complete them.

The Returning Officer for the Usino-Bundi seat, Goi Damud, Madang Provincial Election Manager Peter Yasaro, Ramu Sugar police station commander Patrick Walis and one of his officers have been summoned to appear at the trial.

The 15-day trial will commence February 12 and run through to March 2 at the Madang National Court.

Former MP Anton Francis Yagama filed the petition on grounds of bribery and errors and omission. He is also disputing the 2017 electoral roll used in the election.
