Signing of Capacity building deal to help industry

Head of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative Secretariat, Lucas Alkan, said this during the signing of meeting minutes to begin the ‘Improving Resource Related Revenue Management Project.’

Alkan said the first two reports of the Secretariat for 2013 and 2014 contained significant gaps in fiscal reporting of revenues generated and distributed from the mineral, oil and gas sectors.

He said with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the reporting on revenues from the extractive industry will drastically improve.

PNG EITI and JICA sign technical capacity building deal

The PNG Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (PNGEITI) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will today sign minutes for the ‘Improving Resource Related Revenue Project.’

The project will allow JICA to assist PNG EITI strengthen its fiscal reporting.

The PNG EITI is a PNG Government initiative established in 2013 to promote accountability and transparency of revenue received from the country’s mining and oil and gas sector.

JICA funds major projects in WNB

A ground-breaking ceremony was held in WNB on Monday by visiting delegation from Japan which included  Japan’s Ambassador to PNG Satosh Nakajima.

The Ambassador was accompanied by Works Secretary David Wereh, his deputy operations Steven Pup and the regional Works manager John Sitapai.

The project was funded by JICA at a cost of K80 million.

WNB Governor Sasindran Muthuvel thanked the people of Japan through JICA for this massive project.

JICA to assist PNG develop sustainable GHG inventory

The Climate Change & Development Authority and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will sign the official documents for the project on Thursday, February 9.

Both parties have agreed to finalise the framework of the project aimed at enhancing capacity to develop a sustainable GHG inventory for PNG.

The JICA Team will be providing technical assistance in terms of capacity building for PNG’s GHG Technical experts so that PNG may be able to carry out the GHG Inventory data collection, preparation and reporting for PNG.
