Madang MP Bryan Kramer was among other MPs who were appointed and sworn in yesterday (June 7^th).

“We will be asking of him, in the first instance, to restore credibility to the entire police hierarchy,” said Prime Minister James Marape.

While Kramer’s appointment may come as a result of the call of the people, he now has a mammoth task of cleaning up the police force.

PM Marape made these remarks when addressing the nation on Wednesday night.

Recently elected as the 8th Prime Minister on the floor of Parliament, Tari-Pori MP James Marape says everyone must get behind the government and address the challenges ahead.

“We are a nation of many opportunities. We have natural assets that not too many countries, globally speaking, can profess to have. We have oil, gold, gas, nickel, copper and all the agricultural products put together; we have timber and fisheries. These are resources many nations of the world do not have.”

“Prime Minister Marape introduced governance reforms within the Department of Finance when he was Minister, such as the Integrated Finance Management System (IFMS), the establishment of a new National Procurement Commission and the innovative Phones Against Corruption initiative whereby citizens can text reports of corruption to the 16321 SMS service,” said TIPNG in their statement.

Marape, who collected 101 votes today, is the Pangu Pati leader.

He was nominated by Governor for Enga Sir Peter Ipatas and was seconded by Manus Governor Charlie Benjamin.

Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill was nominated by Opposition Leader Patrick Pruaitch but later withdrew his nominee when Rabaul MP Dr Allan Marat nominated Sir Mekere Morauta.

Only eight MPs voted for Sir Mekere.

Out of the 111 MPs, 109 votes were counted. The obvious exclusion was Speaker Job Pomat while Madang MP Bryan Kramer was not present in the chamber during that time.

He came with his team straight from Parliament.

Leader of United Resources Party, William Duma, and his team have also defected to the Crown camp.

The leaders are now in a meeting and will be calling a press conference soon.

Abau MP Sir Puka Temu was the first to cross the floor this morning to the Government benches after the confirmation of Peter O’Neill’s resignation as Prime Minister.

Meantime, Parliament will meet tomorrow to appoint a new Prime Minister.

When clearing the air on the arrival and refusal to include two more MPs yesterday, Marape said the team collectively decided to shut the gate at 12 noon.

“We respectfully refused one or two personal friends, for me I refused one personal friend whose a member of parliament who came in and I had to respect these two leaders here,” he said.

“It is no more about James Marape, it is no more about William Duma, it is no more about Patrick Pruaitch. It is about the team of likeminded leaders on this side of the house.

Marape’s call follows the surfacing of the document on social media.

The OC’s report mysteriously appeared and within hours was widely shared on social media.

In response, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill released a statement on May 15^th, alleging the document was leaked by the Opposition.

The Prime Minister’s office issued a statement stating that the leaking of the document is political by some in the opposition playing a very dirty game in a desperate attempt to gain support to change the government.
