Barras win by 199 runs over Namibia

In doing so, history was made with the Barras winning their first ICUP match on home soil.

The Barras set a target of 355 for Namibia to chase down with a full day of play left.

The home side were poised for victory after reducing Namiba to 8/112 at stumps yesterday afternoon.

Day four of the match came to an early end this morning after Barras all-rounder Lega Siaka took the last two wickets of Bernard Scholtz and Colin Peake to have Namibia all bowled out for 155.

Siaka was the top bowler finishing with 4/38.

Barras set target of 355 for Namibia

Day three began this morning at 9:30am with the openers Tony Ura and Vani Vagi Morea at the crease looking to extend the Barras lead.

But Namibia had other ideas and crushed the Barras hopes of pushing their lead past 400 by the end of play this afternoon.

Bernard Scholtz was the man responsible taking 6/65 off his 19 overs.

The slow left-arm orthodox bowler troubled the Barras with Scholtz claiming the wickets of big guns Lega Siaka (7), Assad Vala (6) and Mahuru Dai (8) who didn’t score past 10.

Barras in control after day two

Resuming play this morning, the Barras were finally all bowled out for 311. Captain, Assad Vala was the standout finishing the innings unbeaten on 144.

With the ball in hand, the Barras ripped through the Namibian batting top order and left them reeling at 5/35 after 21 overs.

But Namibia’s tail-enders put up some resistance with Sarel Burger (52*) and Johannes Jonathan Smit (23) helping their side to reach triple figures.

The Barras eventually bowled out Namibia for a 146 with Lega Siaka taking the last wicket. This gave the Barras a lead of 165.

Vala rescues Barras on day one

PNG won the toss and captain, Assad Vala, made the decision for the home side to bat first.

The  Barras found themselves in trouble early on in the innings with the dismissals of openers Tony Ura (28) and Vani Vagi Morea (12), and then Lega Siaka (5) leaving the Barras at 3/57 after 21 overs.

It was the Barras captain Vala who rescued his side from trouble, putting them back in firm control with an unbeaten 136.

Vala’s innings consisted of 11 fours and 1 six.

He was assisted late in the innings by Mahuru Dai (24) and John Reva (45).
