India rejects Google Street View plan over security concerns

Officials told the BBC there were concerns that the service would compromise the country's security.

Google Street View collects high definition images to give its users 360 degree views of streets, tourist spots, hills and rivers.

Google's data collection has caused concern in numerous countries.

The Press Trust of India agency reported that India's interior ministry had informed Google that its plans to cover India through the service had been rejected.

Indian President pays respect to fallen Indian soldiers, places wreath

The President laid his wreath at the Bomana War Cemetery in Port Moresby.

It is also believed that about 426 Indian soldiers who were taken prisoner in Malaya and Hong Kong, and brought to New Guinea (then)  by the Japanese were buried at Lae War Cemetery.

Mukherjee arrived in Port Moresby this morning at around 11.40am and was welcomed at the airport by Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion and other government ministers.

At least two Indian soldiers were also killed.

The gunmen entered the living quarters of the Pathankot air force base, about 430 kilometers (267 miles) north of New Delhi, before dawn Saturday but were not able to penetrate the area with fighter helicopters and other equipment, said air force spokeswoman Rochelle D'Silva.

Press Trust of India news agency quoted police as saying that four attackers were killed following the hourslong gunbattle and police started an operation to clear a wider area of other possible intruders.

Enele Sopoaga says failure is not an option.

He says the nation may be able to purchase land in other places, such as New Zealand and Australia if necessary.

However he says that won't stop climate change and its impact on Tuvalu, whose nine coral atolls are home to about 11,000 people.

 

India eyes support from Pacific Island nations

This will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Jaipur.

On Thursday, addressing the heads of the Pacific Island nations who are in New Delhi for the summit, President Pranab Mukherjee said: “UNSC reform and expansion will be discussed and concrete proposals are expected to be considered in the forthcoming UNGA session next month. An inter-governmental negotiating text is already on the table, for which India needs their support.”  

India offers Pacific help on climate

Leaders and delegates from 14 island nations are in Jaipur for the second Summit of the Forum for India- Pacific Islands Cooperation.

India's Economic Times quotes the country's External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, saying India stands ready to share its expertise and technology with the island nations to help them adapt to and to mitigate the effects of climate change.

The paper says India will push for greater cooperation with the island countries in sectors like oil and natural gas, mining, IT, healthcare, fishing and marine research.
