Present at the launching was Unit Commanding Officers, representatives of team officials from participating teams for the CDF’s Rugby Cup Tournament 2023, officials from Capital Rugby Union Port Moresby and Lae and sponsors. 

The Chief of Defence Force Major General Mark Goina, officially launched the CDF’s Rugby Cup 2023 with the unveiling of the Shield which will have the winning team engraved on also including the previous winners. 
The Commanders Cup tournament runs from July 12 to the 20th.

The rugby union contest among Defence Force personnel will run from July 12-20th at the three mentioned venues.

When officially announcing the dates of the PNGDF Commanders Cup this week, Major General Mark Goina is for one belief, and that is to build unity amongst soldiers, sailors, airmen and women. 

He stated that it also unites the defence family. 

“These events also bring our dependents together as they rally behind their respective teams,” stated Major General Goina.

The project, funded by the Australian Defence Cooperation program, will address the two issues of accommodation and capacity building.

This follows today’s signing of a memorandum of understanding with Hornibrook NGI.

PNGDF director engineers, Lieutenant Colonel John Giregire, said this will boost their capacity considering the PNGDF’s trade training unit has been closed for over a decade.

“So we’ve never qualified our tradesmen throughout the years,” he stated. “Right now this concept is to, with the industries – in this case, Hornibrook – qualify the tradesmen.

JSC first workshop training after its launching was held at Igam Barracks in Lae, Morobe Province.

This is the first time after more than 36 years that the JSC training workshop is being held after it was shelved.

The same training workshop is being conducted at the Correctional Service Training College for officers from the three disciplinary forces involving the forces regulations and laws as well as operations and functions of the JSC.
