VIDEO: Father’s response to Sogeri attempted hold-up

For a husband, father and the driver of the vehicle that carried a family of five including two children who merely escaped a life and death experience at the hands of thugs on Saturday afternoon; it was a reaction that resulted only on the thought of getting his family away unharmed.

Criminals hold up woman, escape in car

The woman was said to have parked her car alongside a number of other vehicles at the Ela Murray car park just opposite the church.

Witness Anista Kombri, who is the G4S security guard on duty at the Ela Murray, says after she stepped out of her vehicle (Car Model- ARIA), a blue Mazda pulled up behind her and two men jumped out with what looked to be a homemade gun and a bush knife.

“They pointed it at her and told her to take her child and get out of the car, which the woman did,” says the witness.

NCD shops urged to take precautions against robberies

Two shopping centres were confirmed to have been robbed this morning by looters.

Hohola Police Station commander Senior Inspector Benjamin Kua says the shop that was robbed this morning was done by common thieves - men who lived in the Hohola area.

A shop near the Hohola market was broken into by men armed with a factory made pistol in the early hours of the morning, around 12 to 1am.

Two suspects have been apprehended and are now at the Boroko armed robbery unit at Boroko Police Station, to be questioned and charged.

Armed thieves rob Madang businessman

The victim and two company employees were attacked by the criminals using home made guns, slingshots and bushknives.

According to police reports, the victim of Asian origin, with two of the company employees were taking the weekend takings into Madang town for banking. 

Along the way, more than 10 robbers held them up, attacked the victim and made away with K24, 000 in cash.

The police report alleges that the money was from the weekend takings, and that the Asian and helpers  were trying to conduct a bank run when they were held up.
