Support for Guala

Most of the local population live in rural areas and face challenges related to accessing basic services such as healthcare. Accessing basic services is at times hindered by violence and tribal fighting in local communities.

Through working in partnership with the Hela Provincial Government, United Nations agencies, and partners, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is promoting peace and development in the Guala community in Hela Province.

PNG’s K1.4b Road Infrastructure Program

The largest cut of K400 million is for the Yalu Bridge to Nadzab four-lane highway in Morobe Province. The second largest cut of K164 million has been allocated to the upgrade of the Imulima Bridge to Moreguina stretch on the Magi Highway of Central Province. It will eventually link up with Milne Bay. Other projects include the Halimbu-Koroba road in Hela, sealing of Daru Town roads and sealing of Kiunga-Tabubil Highway in Western, which will ultimately lead on to remote Telefomin in West Sepik.

US$500m energy project for Hela

TBEA Co Ltd, previously known as Tebian Electric Apparatus, is a Chinese manufacturer of power transformers and other electrical equipment, and a developer of transmission projects.

Along with competitors Tianwei Baobian Electric (TWBB) and the XD Group, it is one of the major Chinese manufacturers of transformers.

TBEA chairman Zhang Xin said they are happy to partner with the people of Hela and gave the assurance that the construction of the project will commence next year.

The 160MW power will light up the new province of Hela and other neighbouring provinces.

K10m to complete judicial housing

K3 million of that K10 million was presented to the Judiciary yesterday following an MOU signing in April between the Hela Provincial Government and the National Judicial Staff Service.

Without infrastructure, judges cannot discharge their duties and justice cannot be delivered.

The Tari National Court in Hela does not have accommodation for judicial staff and the provincial government is coming in to support the judiciary build a compound with K10 million.

A gift for the judiciary, the funding will be used to complete the accommodation compound.

New court complex planned for Tari

Hela Provincial Administrator William Bando made the announcement last night when bringing the body of the late judge to his village.

Apart from that, the Hela Provincial Government will also pay for the school fees of the first child from elementary all the way to university.

Bando explained that however, now that the first child has already completed his studies, the commitment will be transferred to the judge’s second child.

Bando described the late judge as a warrior in his own right.

​Hela MPs sworn into PEC

The committee comprises of Members of Parliament, LLG presidents and representatives from women, churches and business groups.

Governor Philip Undialu led Ministers James Marape and Petrus Thomas to a rousing welcome.

Speaking at the dedication service at Habare SDA Church Hall, Governor Undialu told the public servants and public to forgo their political affiliation and start working with the new administration.

TPA starts K100,000 tourism development partnership with Hela

Tourism Minister Tobias Kulang today handed over  a cheque ofK100,000 to Hela Governor Francis Potape as part of the Government’s contribution towards enhancing tourism development in the Province.

Minister Kulang said his ministry through the Tourism Promotion Authority signed MOUs with several provincial governments last year to enhance tourism development in provinces and Hela Province was one that signed the MOU with TPA.
