On these visits, the minister presented K15 million from the Government Health Services Improvement Program, for provincial hospital infrastructure rehabilitation and upgrading; and witnessed the associated signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the National Department of Health (NDoH) and Provincial Health Authorities (PHAs).

With the contractor, Islands Building and Maintenance, making significant strides towards completion. Two staff houses, integral to the extension, are currently under construction.

The workmen have commenced laying the foundations with the project well on track for timely completion, with both the observation ward and staff houses slated for delivery by early January 2024.

A team of high level facilitators from the NDoH standard services conducted the workshop at the Kerema Catholic Hall yesterday.

Health workers numbering 126 came from as far as Kikori and other to participate.

The participants, especially community health workers and nurses from the rural areas raised concerned that they have been working alone in poor stages.

“There is a lot of gap, no communication between us and looks like for the last decade, we have been working in isolation,” Deborh Omaro of Maiaru Aid Post in Kerema district said.
