NCDC Community and Social Services Manager Kila Dick says the call center committee is set up to coordinate and monitor donations from organizations and individuals so that whatever they contribute will go straight to the victims.

HB Fire: Affected clan comes together

They say as the assistance pours in from the kindness of others, they will not wait around to pity themselves.

The clan members and affected people are now putting their hands together to rebuild their lives.

Today, the men and boys of the clan, assisted by other youths from different clans, are working on the second boardwalk, after completing the first a day ago.

HB Fire: Memories lost

Then on Monday another three houses were burnt down to the ground in another fire bringing the total number of houses burnt to 18.

More than 200 families lost everything in the devastating fires.

This reporter visited the Gunina clan this morning; the scar of the fire left for these people is indescribable; The houses, had memories of generations dating back to the world war two, now all lost in just a couple of hours.

HB Fire: Area of origin established, interviews continue

PNG Fire Service Chief, Bill Roo says that investigators have gone over the initial fire site and have a rough estimate of where the fire started.

He says that for now investigators are handing out interview sheets and carrying out site inspections in and around the fire sites.

Roo says that for now the residents will be interviewed to establish a timeline of events leading up to the fire and after.

He would not disclose the initial cause of fire stating only that this has yet to be established as investigations continue.

It’s about neighbours helping neighbours

MRA Managing Director, Philip Samar said giving a little hand to assist the villagers was the right thing to do, given that the calamity was unexpected and the magnitude of damage done to properties was considerable.

“There is not much these villagers can do but hope for external help. That is why we have stepped in to help. For us, it’s about neighbours helping neighbours.”

Two separate fire incidents, one on Saturday and another yesterday morning, have left close to 500 people homeless.
This disaster has seen communities in PNG, both national and non-nationals stepping in to show solidarity.

Around 6pm Saturday 19th of August 20-18, more than 200 families, including babies, and a 70 year old person  lost part of their lives in a fire that engulfed 15 houses of the Gunina clan, at Hanuabada village.

HB Fire: Traffic warned to avoid area

Vehicle and PMVs were turned back from the main entry road into the village with both ends of the entry junctions blocked off.

Fire trucks were observed on sight trying to contain the fire.

Loop PNG managed to get some information from St John Ambulance staff that were on site at the village.

Currently seven patients have been treated for deep lacerations, smoke inhalation and dehydration.

Chief Fire Officer for St John Ambulance, Matt Cannon, has warned Moresby town residents to also avoid the Hanuabada area.

HB Fire: Four treated by St John Ambulance

Whilst confirmed reports have yet to come in from the Fire service and Police, Loop PNG managed to get some information from St John Ambulance staff who are currently on site at the village.

Confirming the fire, Chief Fire Officer for St John Ambulance, Matt Cannon says that so far his officers have dealt four patients.

Three villagers sustained burn injuries to their hands and feet and a fire officer needed to be treated for smoke inhalation and dehydration.
