New ABG MPs sworn in

Patrick Koles was sworn in as the Member for Haku Constituency whilst Didymus Napto Kissu was sworn in as Member for Nissan following the recent by-election of the constituencies.

Both members were elected to their respective seats following the deaths of the former constituency Members – Late Xavier Kareku, the then Member for Haku who passed on in March last year whilst in office and Late Charry Napto, Member for Nissan, who lost his life in a tragic incident two years ago.

A village court’s vital role

They play a vital role in communities, supporting the most vulnerable, including survivors of Family and Sexual Violence (FSV) and people with disabilities.

In Haku Village in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, a woman, clearly shaken, tells her story to Village Court Magistrate Anna Sapur and her colleagues.

The visually impaired woman fled her home seeking support on a domestic matter. She is accompanied by a relative and two workers from the nearby Hako Women’s Collective Seif Haus where she had taken refuge.
