Western Highlands police Commander Martin Lakari says the woman was stabbed in an isolated spot along Queens Park while on her way to the Hagen Coffee settlement.
Lakari says that the 24-year-old was stabbed with what appears to be a kitchen knife by a group of unknown suspects.
He says there appeared to be a struggle with more than one attacker.
A post mortem has already been carried out where it was established that the woman died of a collapsed lung.
