After 100 minutes, the final between Tatana Island Fairfax and Baruni Eagles ended in a 22-22 draw yesterday at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

Clashes after between supporters from both team only marred what was a highly entertaining match that even golden point couldn’t decide a winner.

Chairman of the MKRL, Pipi Dae Boe, said he is consulting the PNG Rugby Football League on the next course of action to take.

The Hunters found themselves behind on the scoreboard after only two minutes when some second man play from the Falcons on the halfway line created space out wide for Matthew Soper-Lawler to race away and score.

The Falcons were in again four minutes later after a short ball from Ryley Jacks send a charging Joe Stimson over the line.

Stimson then added the extras to extend the Falcons lead.

After dominating the competition all year, the Storm last night advanced to the club's eighth season decider and second in a row.

With Cronk set to retire or move to a Sydney-based club after season 2017, it ensures the Storm will have plenty of motivation as they get set to face the Sydney Roosters or North Queensland on Sunday week at ANZ Stadium.

The classy Lae Snax Tigers' halfback slotted through a 91st minute golden point field goal to beat the Agmark Rabaul Gurias 11-10 in this afternoon’s grand final at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

It was thrilling, unbelievable, heartbreaking and historic, which kept the crowd of thousands cheering all afternoon.

There was some scrappy football from both sides in the opening exchanges with the match being played up the middle of the field.

It was the Gurias who found their feet first.

It will be the four time minor premiers from Lae up against the Rabaul boys who are playing in their fourth consecutive grand final.

“We’re not going to change much in our game plan. Preparation is key. We just need to work on our preparation leading into the game,” said Tigers coach, Stanley Tepend.

Both sides met in last year’s grand final with the Tigers edging out the Gurias 14-8 in a thriller. Expect no less tomorrow.

Yesterday’s grand final at the Sir John Guise stadium was highly entertaining and also trouble free which Tkatchenko was pleased with.

“We must all continue to work together to promote rugby league in the country which will benefit everyone.

“We must always remember that the game of rugby league is bigger than any one individual,” said Tkatchenko.

He concluded by thanking all the clubs for all their efforts this season and said he was looking forward to a bigger and better season next year.

The all-Queensland angle is a dead horse worth beating as two clubs from rugby league's heartland returning to the game's biggest stage after almost a decade absent is vitally important for the sport as a whole, but it is far from the only reason to get excited about today's clash.
