Grand Final

Local Tournament Hosts Grand Final

Boregaina Netball Association organizer, Cecilia Gadi said it was great to see young women and girls come together to celebrate their netball grand final with great support shown from the community and corporate

She said: “Because we are far away from the city, we try our best to host or play our own village competition to keep our mothers and girls busy, especially on the weekend. To see them                                                                                                                                          take part in the grand final was great.”

NZ looking to keep grand final run alive

Despite the slump of form since the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Silver Ferns are showing promising signs entering the final rounds with only one loss to their name against Australia where they fell by a single goal 49 to 50.

The Silver Ferns haven't missed a World Cup final since 1995 and its clear they want to keep it that way.

That year in Birmingham former Silver Fern shooter Irene Van Dyk not only led the South African Proteas to a 59-57 win, booking a finals spot against Australia, but they broke New Zealand hearts in one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.

Dockers make it two from three

In the Senior Men’s division, the Dockers edged out Koboni 9.2 (56) to 7.9 (51) to win their fourth premiership.

The women’s grand final was another nail-biter with the Dockers scraping through to beat Koboni 2.1 (13) to 1.3 (9) in what was a low scoring affair.

The Men’s Reserve Grade for the Dockers weren’t as lucky, going down to Oilmin Kokofas 6.4 (40) to 4.3 (27) in their final.

MKRL decision yet to be reached

After 100 minutes, the final between Tatana Island Fairfax and Baruni Eagles ended in a 22-22 draw yesterday at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

Clashes after between supporters from both team only marred what was a highly entertaining match that even golden point couldn’t decide a winner.

Chairman of the MKRL, Pipi Dae Boe, said he is consulting the PNG Rugby Football League on the next course of action to take.

“I’m waiting on the PNGRFL to make a judgement then I will call for a press conference,” said Boe.

Hunters clip Falcons to win grand final

The win was sealed two minutes out from full time with a try from Willie Minoga off an Ase Boas grubber.

The Hunters found themselves behind on the scoreboard after only two minutes when some second man play from the Falcons on the halfway line created space out wide for Matthew Soper-Lawler to race away and score.

The Falcons were in again four minutes later after a short ball from Ryley Jacks send a charging Joe Stimson over the line.

Stimson then added the extras to extend the Falcons lead.

Storm crush Broncos on way to Grand Final

After dominating the competition all year, the Storm last night advanced to the club's eighth season decider and second in a row.

With Cronk set to retire or move to a Sydney-based club after season 2017, it ensures the Storm will have plenty of motivation as they get set to face the Sydney Roosters or North Queensland on Sunday week at ANZ Stadium.

After being wasteful in the first 40 minutes, the minor premiers went into the breakup 8-0 but turned it on the second stanza, running in three tries including a Billy Slater double.

Hunters squad named for final

The squad remains unchanged for Michael Marum’s men, with the coach sticking with the same line-up that beat the Redcliffe Dolphins 6-4 in the major semi-final at the National Football Stadium on September 10.

The final match of the 2017 Intrust Super Cup competition will be played at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia. The match will get underway at 3:25pm.

SP Hunters:

Tigers are 2017 Digicel Cup champions!

The classy Lae Snax Tigers' halfback slotted through a 91st minute golden point field goal to beat the Agmark Rabaul Gurias 11-10 in this afternoon’s grand final at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

It was thrilling, unbelievable, heartbreaking and historic, which kept the crowd of thousands cheering all afternoon.

There was some scrappy football from both sides in the opening exchanges with the match being played up the middle of the field.

It was the Gurias who found their feet first.

Will it be the Gurias or Tigers?

It will be the four time minor premiers from Lae up against the Rabaul boys who are playing in their fourth consecutive grand final.

“We’re not going to change much in our game plan. Preparation is key. We just need to work on our preparation leading into the game,” said Tigers coach, Stanley Tepend.

Both sides met in last year’s grand final with the Tigers edging out the Gurias 14-8 in a thriller. Expect no less tomorrow.

Tkatchenko commends Gurias and Tigers

Yesterday’s grand final at the Sir John Guise stadium was highly entertaining and also trouble free which Tkatchenko was pleased with.

“We must all continue to work together to promote rugby league in the country which will benefit everyone.

“We must always remember that the game of rugby league is bigger than any one individual,” said Tkatchenko.

He concluded by thanking all the clubs for all their efforts this season and said he was looking forward to a bigger and better season next year.
