GG Conveys King Charles’ New Year Message

Grand Chief Sir Bob received the King's well wishes on the eve of New Year last Saturday.

Below is the King's Message:

As we start a New Year, my family and I wanted to send to you and the people of Papua New Guinea our warmest good wishes.  This brings you and all the people of Papua New Guinea every blessing for 2023.

PANGU Invited To Form Government

PANGU is the party with the highest number of Members of Parliament elected during the 2022 National elections.
PANGU Pati General Secretary Morris Tovebae accepted the invitation.

As in other Commonwealth realms, the party or coalition with the most seats in the parliament is invited to form a government, and its leader subsequently becomes Prime Minister. 

In this case, the member-elect for Tari Pori will be the candidate. The Prime Minister then appoints his cabinet from fellow parliament members. 

PANGU Pati has 38 MPs elected during this election.

GG To Attend Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

The Governor General has been invited to participate in the prestigious celebrations marking the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee anniversary of 70 years since her accession to the British throne in 1952 and as head of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae is expected to meet with other Governor Generals including the Honorable David Hurley, Governor General of Australia.

Senior Public Servants Sign Contracts

The appointments of the five senior public servants by the National Executive Council have been gazetted in the National Gazette.

Secretary of Department of Personnel Management Taies Sansan witnessed the employment contract signing ceremony this morning along with Commissioner General of the Internal Revenue Commission, Sam Koim.

Lady Dadae Concerned For Tonga

Lady Dadae, who hails from the Kingdom of Tonga, has expressed concern for their safety. 

“Naturally, I am concerned about the safety and wellbeing of my family as well as for the King and Queen of Tonga and people of Tonga,” she said. 

The tsunami which occurred following the volcanic eruption on an island off the coast of Nuku’alofa, forced Tongan’s to move to higher ground for safety. 

Lady Dadae stated that she was encouraged by posts on social media by Papua New Guineans expressing concern and support to their friends and loved ones in Tonga.
