Gerson-Solulu Scholarship

Morobe students stranded

While Morobe Governor, Luther Wenge, committed to pay in full the fees of every single tertiary student from Morobe, some students have not been attending classes for over a month as they still have outstanding payment.

President of the Morobe Tertiary Students Union (MTSU), Jack Maru, is a final year forestry student at the University of Technology.

Not for Morobeans only

Governor Wenge repeated the requirements to hundreds of tertiary students today at Tutumang Haus.

Pikinini mas stat lo elementri lo Morobe, na pinis lo Morobe,” he said.

“Yu Sipik man, pikinini blo yu skul lo hia from elementary to Grade 12, you must produce the certificate to prove your kid went to elementary to Grade 12 in Morobe Province.

“That’s the minimum requirement.

“And you’ll get a 100 percent scholarship.

Tertiary students air concerns

Students had been going back and forth for over two weeks now to ensure they are included in the provincial government’s Gerson-Solulu Scholarship.

Frustrations mounted when officers within the scholarship office kept sending them away to fulfill more requirements. Furthermore, student leaders expressed concern that the K20 million set for tertiary students would be insufficient.
