Teams prepping for Gazelle 7s

The teams include Namatanai Kurutus, Kinabot Piggies 1 and 2, DSA Lagoons, Rookies, Off-Beats, G-Nuts, Northern Bay Pirates, Inland Rangers, Bankstown, Nonga Medics, CPL Vikings, Matupit Diggers, Kokopo Barbarians, Kokopo Thunders, Tomaringa Royals 1 and 2, Tremors and Kerevat Black Bass, Gelegele Lyons and Stormers.

Jimmy Bonava, the head of sports in the Gazelle District Development Authority and Vice President of Central Gazelle, thanked East New Britain Rugby Union for providing technical assistance to host the tournament.

Gazelle youths keep busy with sports

Member for Gazelle and Health Minister, Jelta Wong, funded the 5-day district festive games with K62,000.

Organised by the district sports sector, sporting activities included rugby touch for men and open teams and volleyball for women and open teams that was held in the respective wards.

Speaking during the presentation of awards to respective ward associations, Minister Wong said the aim of the competition was to keep youths in the district free of trouble this festive period.

NCR road to be upgraded: Gazelle MP

Two road projects are the North Coast Road in Livuan-Reimber LLG and Wairiki road sealing in the Toma-Vunadidir LLG.

Member for Gazelle, Jelta Wong, made this assurance to counter concerns by frustrated locals and the travelling public who commute daily on the badly-deteriorated North Coast Road.

To make matters worse, flash floods in recent months have wreaked havoc on this once famous road.

The Gazelle MP, who is appealing for patience, said engineers will have to study closely the flow of water in order to upgrade the road.

Gazelle plans historical monuments

Through a Community Driven Initiative, the people of Navunaram and surrounding ward in Central Gazelle LLG have set up a working committee to pull together a proposal that entails the erection of a two metre monument and construction and improvement of pedestrian access to the historical assassination site where Blessed Peter ToRot, a Catechist and martyr, was killed by Japanese forces in 1945.

Extra K200,000 for Gazelle student scheme

During the DDA board meeting on Monday this week at Toke Historical site at Kabakada ward, Livuan Reimber LLG, the board deliberated on the report of the initial school fee grant of K300,000 managed by East New Britain Savings and Loans Society and has been expended.

Gazelle DDA Board chairman and Health Minister, Jelta Wong, said a total of 128 loan applications were received by ENBSL’s lending unit for assessment and deliberation.
