Maprik eye road projects with DSIP funds

Case against Kapris dismissed

Magistrate John Kaumi on Thursday delivered his ruling on the case saying there was insufficient evidence in court to commit Kapris to stand trial in the National Court.The court was of the view that the allegations raised against the former MP were based on opinions rather than facts.

The 53-year-old from Suapri village, Maprik District in the East Sepik Province was arrested in Port Moresby on September 13, 2016.

Kapris expected in court today

His case was listed for ruling on Tuesday morning before Magistrate John Kaumi however, it was adjourned to Thursday.

This comes after the 53-year-old from Suapri village, Maprik District in the East Sepik Province, was arrested in Port Moresby on Sept 13, 2016, and charged with four charges under the Criminal Code.

He was charged with two counts of misappropriation of properties, two counts of abuse of office, one count of stealing by false pretense and one count of conspiracy to defraud.

Former Maprik MP appear in court

He briefly appeared with his lawyer before Magistrate John Kaumi where his charges were read and explained to him before the case was adjourned for two months to allow police to continue their investigations.

Kapris is expected back in court on Dec 6 for mention.
