Bigger plans for Fuzzy Wuzzy Nines

Tournament Director for Fuzzy Wuzzy Nines, Manu Lofena, made this statement during the recent two-day tournament at Bava Park in Port Moresby.

He said since 2017, they were looking to take the competition out to the districts of either Koiari, Rigo, Abau or even to Bereina. However, since the competition name is a memorial for those who lent a hand in World War II, the ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels’, there are plans of expanding the event.

In the Cup division, Funeral Home Laumas (2) def. Siporo Magpies 26-18.

To the Plate, QPR Royals def. North Dingos 20-10.

Lastly, to the Bowl, Wests def. Miro Iahe 12-4.

28 men’s teams took part in the tournament. Teams came in from different areas including Abau, Rigo, Gulf as well as Oro.

The tournament, launched on Monday, was one of the three events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Kokoda campaign.

In the Bowl, Miro Iahe will do battle with West.

To the Plate, QPR Royals have a date with North Dingos.

In the Cup division, the preliminary finals are underway.

Siporo Magpies are playing Rovanama.

The next match will see FH Lauma do battle with Paga Panthers.

The winners will meet in the grand final.

The grand final for all divisions will be played later this afternoon at the National Football Stadium, Port Moresby.

Fuzzy Wuzzy Nines enters day three

The tournament, launched on Monday, and is one of the three events to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Kokoda campaign.

Member for Kairuku-Hiri, Peter Isoaimo, was the guest of honour at Monday’s launching.

There are 28 men’s teams taking part in the tournament. Teams have come in from different areas including Abau, Rigo, Gulf as well as Oro.

The finals will start tomorrow. The grand final for the prestigious Cup will be held the next day on Friday.
