POM futsal starts

The Rita Flynn indoor complex came to life as corporate organisations and seasoned soccer clubs took to the courts in Port Moresby.

Promised to be bigger than ever, the first evening of games kicked off on a high note with families, professionals, soccer clubs and expatriates getting into the swing of things.

Three divisions took part on Friday evening: The A-League, Mixed and Super leagues.

Solomons men, NZ women set futsal pace in Auckland

Solomon Islands edged New Caledonia 3-2 on Thursday morning, in a top of the table clash, before thrashing Samoa 8-0 to make it four straight wins.

Baby Kurukuru coach Stanley Puairana was excited to secure another six points but has already turned his focus on his team's last day of matches.

"So far we have 12 points and we're getting excited about maybe going to the Olympics but we're still taking it one game at a time, step-by-step," he said.

"Two games in one day is really hard but I know our players will continue to try their best".

Global game Futsal comes to Aitape

Aitape is in Sandaun Province and is connected by  a 177.4 km stretch of highway to Wewak, the East Sepik capital.

Futsal is a modified form of soccer played with five players per side on a smaller pitch.

ESFA president Clearance Hukahu said a one day clinic will be held this Wednesday, followed by a trial competition which will see 12 men’s and 6 women’s teams starting their inaugural competition.

He said  that the ESFA assistance followed a request from Aitape sports officers after their participation in the East Sepik grassroots games two months ago.
