After numerous acting appointments in the last four years, Mr Lau was permanently appointed to a four-year term on May 10, 2022 in NEC decision number 229 0f 2022 and his appointment was gazetted on May 30, in gazettal notice G426.

When resuming office on Monday, Mr Lau appealed to all public servants of Madang Provincial Administration, departmental heads and senior staff to immediately resume duties and refrain from indulging in any form of standoffs.

He stated that his appointment was a prerogative of the NEC.

The public servants have queried the appointment of the PA and that proper processes were followed.

According to a public servant, who did not want to be named said the signatures of a minute they had received earlier did not match, and this caused them to question the appointment.

They again fronted the provincial administration building today to get an update on their query.

DPM Secretary, Taies Sansan said, the National Executive Council (NEC) revoked the Acting Provincial Administrator, Clement Tare’s appointment and appointed Mr Lau on 10 May 2022 in NEC decision number 229 of 2022.  
Lau’s appointment was gazetted on 30 May in gazettal notice G426 and it is for a four-year term.
