Special incentives to be announced

Prime Minister James Marape made the announcement on Thursday, May 25th, when meeting with Lae’s private sector.

Marape thanked employers for remaining loyal to PNG for the past decades despite the deteriorating business environment.

“Those incentives will be announced very soon, in fact, within the six months going forward before the 2024 budget is brought in,” he stated. “We will announce certain incentives that we will be giving to the manufacturing sector and more so, agriculture, forestry and fisheries based here in our country.”

NFA Visits Philippines Tuna Capital

General Santos City fondly known as the Tuna capital of the Philippines, thousands of tuna are caught there on a daily basis. Aside from fresh tuna, General Santos is the largest producer of corn, coconuts, pineapples, asparagus, exotic fruits, and even rice.

The visit to this particular region gave the NFA delegation direct information and ideas on the best implementation plan for the Fisheries Strategic Plan 2021-2030 to achieve its goals.

General Santos boasts the modern fish port in Philippines and greatly supports the country’s revenue.

EU-STREIT PNG Supports Rural Women

These included 3000 young girls and women from 40 remote villages as well as educational institutions in the Sepik Region, over the last four months, to mainstream gender and youth inclusion into the agri-food value chain.

In its ongoing mission to mainstream gender concerns and youth inclusion into the agri-food value chain, the EU Funded UN Joint STREIT PNG Programme, in partnership with stakeholders, has conducted 12 sensitisation sessions and training workshops.

The problem with our Fish market is one day it is open then another time its closed for almost 3 months’ so this poses as a difficult turn of events for those of us trying to get somewhere in the fisheries business.

NFA Signs MOU with Korea for Fisheries Ports Development

The MOU provides a framework for NFA and Korea FIPA to collaborate in fisheries infrastructure development to support the fishing industry in PNG.

The signing occasion was witnessed by Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to PN, His Excellency Kym-gu Kang.

On Friday March 6th, National Fisheries Authority Managing Director, John Kasu, signed the MOU in the presence of Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to PNG, His Excellency Kym-gu Kang.

Resource law amendments expected this year

Prime Minister, James Marape, says resource laws will be amended over the next two years to build a solid foundation for the economy.

Prime Minister Marape said some of the policy fundamentals will be put in place, and legislative amendments and laws passed over the next two years before the 2022 National Elections.

Marape said amendments to resource laws will be brought before Parliament.

Current reviews include the Oil & Gast Act and the Mining Act.
