Olympic Champions Fiji to Host 2016 Oceania Sevens Championship

The Championships will be held in Suva, at ANZ Stadium over two days, Friday 11th -Saturday 12th November, and will be the perfect lead in to the start of the 2016-2017 Men’s and Women’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series that kick-off in Dubai in early December.

This year’s Oceania Rugby Sevens Championships will see recently crowned Men’s Olympic Gold medalists and current World Rugby HSBC Sevens Champion Fiji participate for the first time since its Rio de Janeiro triumph.

Kava produced from Madang ‘koniak’ is loved in Fiji

This was pointed out recently by sales representative from a kava processing company from Fiji called Niugini Kava whose popular market brand Kava Toks was showcased recently at the Madang Investment Summit.

 The company set up a stall at the Sugeng Aben Park near Madang Resort Hotel where it showcased products made from kava that originated from along the NCR in Madang.

An agent for Niugini Kava had been buying kava roots from smallholder farmers along the NCR and later shipping it overseas for processing and marketing.

PNG and Fiji trade talks in Port Moresby Review

PNG Made products, Ox & Palm, Snax biscuits and Trukai rice products for over a decade have been banned to be taken into Fiji because the island nation claims it is unsafe because it does not meet its biosecurity requirements.

A team of officials from Fiji’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and Biosecurity Authority will be arriving in Port Moresby to meet with officials from PNG to and the manufacturers of the products.

Fiji police find another body part of Russian woman

The Fiji Sun reports the part was removed from a reef after being spotted by a man out fishing.

The woman Nataliya Gerasimova and her partner Yuri Shipulin were residents of Fiji when they disappeared in mid-June.

They were killed and part of their bodies were found on the beach a week later.

     

PNG denies Fiji to qualify

Fiji misses out on the victory they needed for their semifinals hopes and PNG exit with their first point of the tournament.

Papua New Guinea's Peter Dabinyaba Jr floats a free kick in 35th minute that evades everyone and nestles in the net for PNG to lead 1-0 at first half.

In the second half, Fiji came back aiming to collect the win with more attacks into PNG’s goal mouth.

However, Felix Komolong played an amazing role in the backline denying Fiji’s attempts.

Ox and Palm has no biosecurity or health threat: NAQIA

NAQIA managing director Joel Alu stated in a statement that an Import Risk Assessment (IRA) carried out by  Fiji’s quarantine in 2004 (Then known as Ministry of Agriculture, Sugar and Land Resettlement) proved that the canned meat was safe and in line with its biosecurity measures.   

“This was done in 2004. The outcome of this IRA process had been conveyed back to PNG and approval granted by the Fijian competent authority for Ox and Palm corned beef to be allowed market access in Fiji.

Fiji battle back to win Pacific Nations Cup opener

With incoming World Rugby Vice-Chairman Agustin Pichot in attendance, the Fijians overcame a 15-0 deficit to run in three second-half tries to beat a physical and spirited Tonga team.

With the additional motivation of Rugby World Cup 2019 qualification places available to the top two teams in the Pacific Nations Cup over a two-year period, the action was always going to be compelling and the teams did not disappoint.

In the Suva sun, the action was as hot as the weather with both teams throwing caution to the wind in the opening exchanges.

Manufacturers Council calls for fair trading with partners

Council Chief Executive Officer, Chey Scovell told Loop PNG today that “having lived up to the terms of the Agreement, our members, local manufacturers have been at continuous disadvantage by our MSG counterparts not implementing the Agreement in accordance to the Agreement.”

Scovell was responding to Fiji’s ban on the import of Ox & Palm into their country.  

“My members acknowledge that Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are relatively small markets, indeed combined that are only a single province in PNG, however size isn’t the issue, its fair trading. 

Fake FB accounts target Fiji Reserve Bank

FBC News says according to the Bank, cyber criminals have created several fake facebook profiles of Barry Whiteside, the Bank Governor.

However, the Governor does not have a Facebook profile under his name.

The Bank said impersonations were used to provide fake RBF approvals for victims to remit funds to secure proceeds for fake lotteries, investments and loans.

Governor Whiteside said RBF and its staff do not communicate with anyone via Facebook or other social media on official business matters.
