Fiji book RLWC finals with Italy thrashing

The two nations had never met before Friday and they made up for lost time, producing a match that had everything a rugby league fan could ask for.

Hayne equals RLWC all-time try-scoring record

Hayne was instrumental in Fiji’s win, having a hand in most of the Bati’s 11 tries and leading the way in both attack and defence.

His 46th minute try took the star five-eighth try scoring tally in three World Cups with Fiji and Australia to 13, equalling the record held by the legendary Bob Fulton since 1975.

Hayne’s 13 tries include nine for Australia and four for Fiji.

Fiji thrash USA in Townsville

Fiji's backline had a happy night, with Kevin Naiquama, Suliasi Vunivalu and Taane Milne all scoring doubles.

Kumuls beat Fiji; lose to Kangaroos

PNG dominated over the NRL star studded line-up with tries to captain David Mead and Luke Page to beat the Fijians in the first 40 minutes.

Early nerves got the better of both sides in the opening exchanges with some scrappy play.

After finding their rhythm, the Kumuls were relentless, launching wave after wave of attacks.

Some classy play from Kumuls’ hooker, Kurt Baptiste, allowed Mead to slice through the defence and score.

The win was sealed late in the match when vice-captain, Ase Boas, set up a charging Page to crash over.

Brilliant Bati comeback steals Pacific Test win

A 90-metre intercept try to Bulldogs and Bati winger Tyrone Phillips – the only scoring play of the second half – handed Fiji an unlikely lead they desperately clung onto until the final siren when the celebrations erupted.

In what was the first ever official Test match in Samoa, it looked like the home fans would be enjoying a runaway win as big Sam Kasiano inspired his country to an 18-0 lead after almost as many minutes.

Bati blown away by Fijian reception

The Bati's stature in international rugby league is one of the largest growing and it has materialised once again for this weekend's test against Papua New Guinea at Pirtek Stadium.

Fiji were a shining light in both the 2008 and 2013 World Cups after finishing fourth on each occasion and those experiences have helped cultivate a real family feel among coach Mick Potter's squad.

What hasn't quite been revealed in the two years since the last World Cup however is the huge influence the Fijian locals have had on this budding Bati culture.

Marum is Kumuls coach for Pacific Test

His appointment was officially made known in a press conference this afternoon at the Holiday Inn, Port Moresby.

Marum made his debut for the Kumuls against France in the first game of the 2000 Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) in Paris. He is the 197th Kumul.

After his retirement, Marum took up a coaching role with the Agmark Gurias then on to the international stage that included playing assistant to Adrian Lam in the 2008 RLWC and recently assisted former Kumuls coach, Mal Meninga at last year’s Pacific Test.

Jarryd Hayne effect

FRU chief executive officer Radrodro Tabualevu, while applauding former Fiji Bati fullback Hayne's selection, said it was the best news ahead of the Flying Fijians tricky opener against home team England at Twickenham.

Radrodro said the FRU was confident that Hayne's transition from professional rugby league to American Football together with all his achievements as a professional sportsman was an inspiration for the Vodafone Flying Fijians.

"His achievement thus far is remarkable and manifests a nothing is impossible attitude," he said in a media statement.
