Govt concerned with split in PNG soccer

Vice Minister Raminai did not hide the fact that PNG football is split and talks are in progress to bring all factions together.

Friday, the first of February, was historic for football in the country as the FIFA World Cup Trophy made a stop in PNG as part of its tour to over 51 countries worldwide.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy, which arrived from Honiara, Solomon Islands, was unveiled at the Laguna Hotel in Port Moresby.

For thousands of football fanatics in PNG, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the most iconic symbol in football and share their passion with Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola and FIFA are hosting this momentous international tour and fans can get up close and personal with the same trophy that is presented by FIFA to the winning country of the FIFA Russia 2018 World Cup.

This afternoon marked the unveiling of the official FIFA World Cup Trophy at the Laguna Hotel.

FIFA Trophy touches down at Jackson’s

The aircraft, carrying the official FIFA World Cup Trophy, touched down at the Jackson's International Airport from Honiara, Solomon Islands.

On hand to welcome the trophy were Coca-Cola Amatil executives alongside senior vice president of the PNG Football Association, John Wesley Gonjuan, and General Secretary Dimirit Mileng.

15 cities worldwide will share the passion with Coca-Cola and FIFA, with PNG being the 8th city visited.

The iconic FIFA Trophy is yet to be revealed on board the official aircraft.
