FIFA U20 Women's World Cup 2016

PM O'Neill officially welcomes FIFA World Cup teams

The tournament will take place over a period of three weeks at four venues in Moresby.

O'Neill joined NCD Governor Powes Parkop last night, during the host city's reception, in extending a very warm welcome to Oceania and PNG Football Association president David Chung and all the other FIFA officials who are in Moresby over the next few days.

"PNG is a very unique country and you will find that our people are very warm and they will continue to support each of the teams over the next few days."

Patrol to enhance citizens’ feeling of safety

Port Moresby police boss, Ben Turi, says police visibility will be seen in busy areas to enhance our citizens' feeling of safety, and build bridges between citizens and police.

Foot beat officers will also help to provide support and manpower during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Officers have been slacking off so this is the time for them to step up their game and ensure public safety and security during the FIFA gaming period, Turi said during a parade.

Baki: Security is everyone’s responsibility

He said it is the first time that Papua New Guinea is hosting such an international sporting event and the country’s image lies on how the people support the tournament.

“Like the Pacific Games, security belongs to everybody and it’s everyone’s responsibility.

“We are the only people that can stand up to the world and tell them that PNG is a united independent country and that our image rests on how we support the FIFA tournament.
“But we must ensure that every one of us take ownership of security and make it our business during the tournament,” said Baki.

Air Niugini supports FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

In a meeting with FIFA officials in Port Moresby last week, Air Niugini general manager, customers and markets, Dominic Kaumu, said the airline’s support is predominantly in kind assistance, comprising of air travel discounts and other promotional activities.

“Air Niugini is honoured to be associated with the renowned international football tournament. We thank FIFA for the opportunity to be a national supporter for the first ever FIFA event hosted in Papua New Guinea,” said Kaumu.
