Gr 12 exam will go ahead: Kombra

Secretary for Education, Dr Uke Kombra, is calling on the newly-elected leaders and authorities in the provinces to support the students by ensuring that the examination is conducted as planned.

Dr Kombra made this call due to his concern that there are still some schools throughout the country that are being affected by election-related activities and issues, resulting in many teachers and students not turning up for classes.

WNB ready for polling

Kelton said polling teams were dispatched since Wednesday, while the remaining will be sent out today and early tomorrow morning.

A total of 61 polling teams will travel throughout the length and breadth of the province.

22 teams have been spread throughout the five LLG’s of Kandrian-Gloucestor, while 39 teams will cover the seven LLG’s of Talasea.

Polling will be held for seven days.

Meanwhile, Kelton said the province is currently experiencing strong winds and showers and this could lengthen the polling process.

Campaigning ends today

After eight rigid weeks of walking through rough, rugged terrain and ridges to campaign, candidates can rest, while the country decides in the polling booth.

This election campaign has been described by many as ‘quiet’ compared to the previous elections.

Social media has been the most effective campaign platform for many candidates, and also for public scrutiny and criticism.

Jiwaka to have new Provincial Treasurer

This decision was made by Chairman for the Inter-departmental Election Committee, Isaac Lupari, who gave assurance that he will be assisting to make this happen.

This comes after the election manageress for Jiwaka province, Rossie Pandihau raised serious concerns about the long overdue absence of the provincial treasurer who is believed to be in the nation’s capital at the moment.

Polling officials in Jiwaka are yet to access election funds for the training of their election officials for polling.
