Double blow for Pom residents

The planned water disruption to Moresby North-west, which was supposed to end as of yesterday (Dec 14), 6pm, has continued into day 2.

EDA RANU has explained that due to complications beyond their control, there has been a delay in restoring services.

“We hope to have normalcy returned by 10am this morning,” the water supplier said on their Facebook page.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and request for your cooperation and support.”

Water disruptions to Tokarara, Waigani

Eda Ranu in a media statement this afternoon advised all residents about this water disruptions.

This is due to commissioning of the new 200mm water main of 1.3 km from Waigani Traffic lights to NHC; Koura Way, Tokarara.

According to Eda Rany, this new line will be commissioned on Wednesday 30th November to avoid any further delays on the new Koura Way Road project.

The commissioning will be taking place between 8am-5pm.

Eda Ranu requests for your cooperation and support and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

Government entities yet to pay Eda Ranu

Eda Ranu CEO Henry Mokono when presenting a dividend of K2 million to Kumul Consolidated Holdings on Wednesday said the amount would have been much greater, considering massive amounts of money still owed by government agencies for water and sewerage services.

“We have yet to collect hefty amounts owing from other government entities.

“The three disciplinary forces; Police, CIS and Defence alone owe us in excess of K30 million, followed by other state departments and agencies.

“We have a total debt level of monies owed in excess of K50 million”, he said.

Mokono calls for understanding into NHC boss’ resignation

Mokono was responding to a comment on Loop PNG story by one Donald Asibo who claims that Dege’s resignation was planned and Mokono had a part to play in that plan.

However, a frustrated Mokono told Loop PNG that Asibo’s claims were full of ‘rubbish’ and lack evidence.

“For him to publicly state that I have a personal link with J. Dege is utter trash and I don't eat out of the same plate with him.

“Wild allegations such as his will tarnish our reputation forever,” Mokono said.

Water and sewerage connection is a government must: Kua

He also raised in Parliament yesterday the idea of merging Eda Ranu and Water PNG. This is to help in providing this adequate need, which in many provincial centres is non-existent.

“The most profitable centre is Port Moresby, which falls under Eda Ranu and the other centres which are not profitable are placed under Water PNG. That is why Water PNG is unable to afford and finance the cost of provision of clean water supply and sanitation to the rest of the country,” Kua said.

We are not part of the unions, says Eda Ranu

In a press conference this afternoon, Eda Ranu CEO Henry Mokono said Eda Ranu will not be part of the union calling on Prime Minister Peter O'Neill to step down.

He said his board and management are intact and cannot be lured to such rumours or gossips from the union.

Mokono said Eda Ranu will focus on their main responsibility and that is to supply water to residents in the city.

A group of senior professional staff from various unions met yesterday and gave the 48-hour ultimatum to PM to step down.

Eda Ranu closely monitoring water usage

“We have come to normal production because the dam is building up and we are closely monitoring the usage of water in the city,” said Eda Ranu chief operating officer Dr Fifaia Matainaho.

He told Loop PNG that the state-owned water supplier will monitor the dam level because of the approaching dry season.

Late last month, Eda Ranu managing director Henry Mokono announced that the uplifting will be trialed for two months and changes will be made depending on the Sirinumu dam water level.

There will be no water disruption: Eda Ranu

She gave the guarantee today following rumours on social media that the city’s water supply will be stopped to coincide with the strike action taken by university students and NGOs in Port Moresby today.

"We (Eda Ranu) will not take part in any protest, our services will be normal.

“The message circulated on Facebook is false and the Eda Ranu board and management do not have any knowledge of it,” Karo stated.

Eda Ranu chief operating officer Dr Fifaia Matainaho said the water company will provide the essential service to its customers as mandated by law.

Nine months load of water left at Sirinumu

Eda Ranu general manager commercial services Paul Gore told Loop PNG “current consumption for (water) will last for nine months before the level hits the 50 Million Cubic Metres (Mm3).

Dam owner, PNG Power states the measurement recording on Tuesday at 100 Mm3, which is 29.6 percent of the 340 Mm3 capacity of the reservoir (http://www.looppng.com/content/sirinumu-water-level-keeps-dropping).

Gore said water rationing will continue indefinitely at this stage.
