Meanwhile in Eastern Highlands Province, the first period of partial lockdown, the 2pm-6am daily curfew, has been lifted. The number of patients coming through the COVID-19 facilities have reduced, with only 10 in-patients currently within the facility.

The fundraising drive started on 3rd of October and ended last Sunday but this has extended due to continuing support.

During the first week of the fundraising drive the association was able to raise K75,800 from which they were able to purchase 100 oxygen cylinders from BOC in Lae, 60 plastic chairs, six hot water urns and a number of power extension cords and accessories.

NEHASA President, Jarmol Hogi a third year UPNG student, said 50 of the oxygen cylinders had been transported to Goroka on October 9 and the other 50 will be transported anytime soon.

During the pre-launch conference held at the Paradise Hotel, UNFPA Country Representative, Marielle Sanders said the situation analysis repot was about family planning. Family planning is one of the corner stones of the government’s population policy.

She said the most important thing for all stakeholders is being able to speak clearly about the need for family planning and protection against unwanted pregnancies and disease.
