Easter reminds us of love: Rev Urame

Head Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG, Reverend Dr. Jack Urame issued this reminder as the world heads into the Easter long weekend; from Good Friday on March 29th, to Easter Monday on April 1st.

Rev Urame said within the narrative of God’s favour for humanity, revealed in its highest form by Christ on Easter, lies the values of forgiveness, reconciliation and love.

Be Steadfast This Easter: PM

It is a time to reflect on ourselves in our life’s journey and appreciate our existence here on earth, said Prime Minister, James Marape in his Easter message to the country.

“Fellow Papua New Guineans, while most are used to the meaning of Easter as the death, resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ and the gift of salvation for all people, there is another message we as the people of a Christian Nation can take from the events of Easter.

'We need Easter as much as ever,' says the Queen

While celebrations would be different for many this year, she said: "We need Easter as much as ever."

Referencing the tradition of lighting candles to mark the occasion, she said: "As dark as death can be - particularly for those suffering with grief - light and life are greater."

It comes as the number of coronavirus deaths in UK hospitals reached 9,875.

Speaking from Windsor Castle, the Queen said many religions had festivals celebrating light overcoming darkness, which often featured the lighting of candles.

Be a servant to others

In his Easter message, Sir John Cardinal Ribat spoke of how Jesus washed the feet of his disciples during a meal.

Found in John 13:3-17, Simon Peter first refused to let Jesus wash his feet.

“And then Jesus said to him, ‘No, if I do not wash your feet then you are not part of me’,” said the Cardinal.

“At this time, Peter changed his mind and said ‘ok, you do not wash my feet but also myself as a whole. Wash me’. And he said ‘no, your feet is enough’.
