Marijuana Uncovered At Airport

The illicit drugs were transported in a bag via plane from to Tari to Port Moresby, but no one picked them up. The packages were left unclaimed on the conveyor belt inside the terminal.

Astro once again helped in sniffing out the drugs. The police dog’s handler and colleague Constable Edward Baimba said Astro sat firm next to the bag containing the drugs after detecting them.

Laos makes Asia's largest ever drug bust

Officers intercepted a truck carrying 55 million methamphetamine tablets and more than 1.5 tonnes of crystal meth, the UN's crime agency said.

The discovery came after police stopped a truck carrying beer crates in Bokeo, which borders Thailand and Myanmar.

The area - known as the Golden Triangle - has a long history of being a major drug-producing hotspot.

Jeremy Douglas, Southeast Asia regional representative for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), told the BBC it was "by far the largest seizure in the history of East and Southeast Asia".

10 people accused over importing over a tonne of drugs into New Zealand

Up to five million dollars' worth of drugs was seized in a major operation targeting the importation of methamphetamine and other drugs into New Zealand.

A New Zealand man has allegedly been operating overseas since 2016, sending drugs to associates back here via multiple countries and using a variety of ways to conceal the drugs.

He was arrested at the border in Italy on February 2.

Police have also arrested six of his alleged associates living in New Zealand after search warrants were carried out throughout the wider Auckland region last week.

Five more charged over French Polynesia ice production

Last week, the two main suspects were charged and remanded after a raid on a house on Tahiti's peninsula where they had set up a lab to produce the banned drug.

The five were allegedly also involved in the operation by buying medicines at pharmacies to make methamphetamine.

They were reportedly given some of the drug in return.

The couple at the centre of the operation are in their mid-30s.

If convicted, they could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

 

     

Police capture alleged drug ring leader

Suspect Boas Thomas Lau, aged 30, from Hahai village, Pak Island, was arrested and charged on Saturday, February 24.

Manus provincial police commander (PPC), David Yapu, said the mobile squad responded to a tip off about a drug syndicate operating between Manus and Madang, apprehending the alleged ring leader at Lorengau main market and confiscating large quantities of drugs from his possession.

The suspect admitted to buying drugs in Madang and transporting them to Manus by boats involved in the buai trade.

Drug dealer appears in court

The 40 year old man was charged for being in possession of dangerous drugs.

Paul David from Eastern Highlands Province was caught with 30 kilograms of marijuana on Saturday at six mile.

According to police, they got hold of David following a chain of arrests.

 Police reported that they apprehended one of David’s dealers at the Erima Flyover bridge who led them to him.

The dealer was caught when police busted three Primary school students smoking the drug under the fly over.

NCD police make major drug bust

NCO Superintendent Operations, NCD Support Unit, Constable Francis Numapo told Loop PNG that after apprehending a drug dealer at the Erima Flyover bridge, they were led to Six Mile in search of the distributor and arrested a suspect on the spot.

“The marijuana was packed and sealed in three different bags. It was brought in from Goroka to be sold in Port Moresby. The street value of it is K10 000-K15, 000,” said Numapo.

Official charges will be laid against the suspect from Eastern Highlands who is currently at the Boroko police station.

Major Popondetta drug ring uncovered

Over 200 marijuana plants were seized, including a home-made firearm and six .50 calibre bullets, when OIC Sgt Jimmy Bonanda and his team raided a hideout at Koropata village.

The successful bust in the Higaturu LLG, along the Kokoda Highway, was the result of information received during the weekend after the detention of a teenager.

He was found in possession of an unusually large amount of marijuana. Upon interrogating the young man, Bonanda and his team uncovered a supply network that ran through Girua all the way up the Kokoda highway to the supplier in Koropata.

Myanmar monk is arrested over two huge drug hauls

The monk was first stopped in Rakhine state with 400,000 tablets in his car.

No value has been placed on the hauls, although in 2015 the UN estimated the retail price of a methamphetamine tablet was about $2 - making the latest consignment worth about $9.2m (£7.3m).

Myanmar has emerged as a top producer of illegal drugs in recent years.

The senior monk, named only as Arsara, was arrested after police discovered the first consignment of tablets in his car as he was driving to the town of Maungdaw bordering Bangladesh.
