Trump barred from conservative gathering after latest barb

His latest incendiary comment, about one of the Fox News moderators from Thursday's Republican presidential debate, has led to a scolding by the party and condemnation by organizers of the RedState Gathering.

The billionaire businessman lashed out against Fox News' Megyn Kelly for her questions during the campaign's first debate. She had asked the candidate about his use of derogatory language toward women and whether it reflected the "temperament of a man we should elect as president."

The website Business Insider reported the posts Friday. They included including a racist slur to describe the Rev. Al Sharpton's daughter and references to President Barack Obama as a "Socialist Marxist Islamo Fascist Nazi Appeaser" and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as "Huckahick."

Obama chides 2016 candidates for 'ridiculous,' 'sad' remarks

In some of his first commentary on the budding race to replace him, Obama accused the candidates of violating a time-honored American tradition of not playing "fast and loose" on topics of grave concern like foreign policy.

And he said that regardless of which party wins the White House, he wants to ensure he's turning over the keys to someone capable of seriousness and honesty.

2016 Republicans use Trump, TV to make debate cut

With the first debate of the Republican presidential campaign approaching, the White House hopefuls are trying everything they can to improve their polling position. A candidate needs to place in the top 10 in an average of national polls to meet the criteria Fox News Channel has set to take the stage Aug. 6 in Cleveland.

Those kept out risk being overlooked by voters and financial backers heading into the critical fall stretch before the nominating contests start early in 2016.

"They already do" — because as president he'd grab jobs back from overseas and give more opportunity to those who live in the U.S. legally.

"There's great danger with the illegals," the Republican presidential contender told reporters. But he claimed a "great relationship" with Hispanics, even as Latino leaders have come at him with blistering criticism for his painting Mexican immigrants as criminals.

Sen. Reid raps Republicans over response to Trump comments

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid jumped on both Tuesday, first attacking Trump for his criticism of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., then pivoting to a larger target: the growing GOP presidential field and the entire Republican Party.

Reid, D-Nev., noted that while Trump's GOP White House rivals were nearly unanimous in denouncing Trump's suggestion that McCain is not really a war hero, they were more tentative in responding to his criticisms of Mexican immigrants as "criminals" and "rapists."

Trump basks in McCain takedown, says rivals envious of rise

But Trump simply may not care; indeed he seemed to bask in his McCain takedown.

After dismissing McCain's reputation as a war hero because he was captured in Vietnam and "I like people who weren't captured," Trump declared "I will say what I want to say." He insisted he would stay in the GOP primary field, despite rivals who say he's now shown he doesn't merit the presidency.

Clinton, Kerry join in criticism of Trump's McCain statement

In Iowa on Saturday, Trump said that he doesn't consider McCain, a prisoner of war in the Vietnam War, to be a war hero.

The front-runner for the Democratic nomination, Hillary Rodham Clinton, not only harshly criticized Trump during a campaign event in Arkansas, she accused the GOP field of being slow to repudiate Trump's other controversial statements.

GOP candidate Trump goes after Sen. John McCain's war record

Speaking at a conference of religious conservatives in Iowa, Trump was pressed on his recent description of the 2008 Republican presidential nominee as "a dummy."

McCain served as a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War. He was captured after his plane was shot down and was held more than five years as a prisoner of war. The moderator, Republican pollster Frank Luntz, described McCain as "a war hero."
