I’m a victim of Electoral Commission error: Polye

Polye in a statement said an error by the Returning officer for Kandep Open electorate, Naipata Kier has resulted in the court decision until the counting of the disputed ballot boxes.

There are five disputed ballot boxes which the court ruled for it to be counted.

Polye said he won the Kandep Open electorate by a big margin only to be set aside due to the error by the Electoral Commission and its agents.

“I am just a victim of an error by the Returning Officer.

Court sets aside Polye’s election

This follows a successful election petition filed by petitioner Alfred Luke Manase disputing the election of Polye as the duly elected Member of Parliament for the Kandep Open electorate in the 2012 General Election.

The decision came today, more than a year after the trial was conducted in January 2015.

This means that Polye is no longer a member of parliament.

Justice Joseph Yagi ordered the Electoral Commission to count five ballot boxes that were disputed during the General Elections within 30 days from today.

Polye packs a punch for Parkop

He said Parkop was to be blamed for all the informal sector problems in the city because his rogue policemen went on a rampage kicking and bullying the informal sector people in the city.

He said Parkop must look at solving ethnicity problems and support the informal sector in the city.

Polye added that people have to survive in this demanding city and Parkop really need to come up with some solutions for the formal sector.

“People need to survive in the city as the cost of the living is very high.

Polye calls on young lawyers to defend constitution

He said the country’s judiciary system has been brought into question following the arrest of a senior lawyer and one of the country’s senior judges.

“We must not allow the rule of law, the constitution, organic law and the acts of Parliament, among others, to erode,” Polye warned.

He also urged young lawyers coming out of the law school not to deviate from defending the constitution.

He said they must live by the principles of law, which is derived from the Word of God.

Polye calls on O’Neill to step down

Speaking at a media conference in Port Moresby, Polye said O’Neill is demeaning the Office of the Prime Minister by not enabling the court to determine whether he is innocent or guilty of charges against him.

“He uses every means – almost incessant pleading – before the court and hires very expensive lawyers at the expense of the state.

“Court hearings are an opportunity for those accused to show they are innocent. They are an opportunity for the prosecution to show the accused guilty.

Polye asks Baki to lift fraud director’s suspension

In a media conference today, Polye said Baki utterly failed our people and demeaned the office of the prime minister.

He urged Baki to let the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate complete its work and not interfere through political dealings.

Baki said he suspended Damaru because he wanted to assume command and control of an erratic directorate. He said the directorate was out of control.

He also suspended the immediate staff for their continuous defiance of administrative direction, which amounts to insubordination.
